Description
Trypp is a 4 year old male, imported from Ireland as a pup. Trypp and Paul have a complicated past. As a yearling, just as Paul started training him, Trypp suffered a near career ending injury. When a neighbor set off fireworks, Trypp spooked, jumped the fence and bolted. He was found 15 hours later with a shattered back leg. After 6 weeks and 2 surgeries, the first attempt to repair the leg was unsuccessful. Out of tears and money, Paul decided it was time to amputate. The vet informed him that that was not an option. The hospital took on the cost of the second surgery as “educational” for the staff. They successfully placed a plate and screws up the length of his femur. Beyond belief, he’s competing, placing at trials, and staying sound. It took a village!
Paul lives in the finger lakes region of New York. He started running USBCHA trials with two kelpies and quickly moved to border collies. Paul has been in the top ten in points for NEBCA for the last several years and has been both the Champion and Reserve Champion in the Fall Foliage Double lift. Paul and his partners own an equestrian center and he also keeps about 200 ewes on an adjacent farm. He is a Cornell Graduate Farrier, and currently works as a farrier, farmer and dog trainer. Prior to competing in USBCHA trials, he was an orchid judge with the American Orchid Society, having made a number of new hybrids. At one point, he had over 1500 orchids and even had one hybrid named after him – “Bulbophyllum Paul Batz”…….which he says “smells like a dead mouse.”
