Rae is a 10-year-old female who treats everyone she meets as a new best friend—she loves all people and all dogs. Trae often calls her his “10-year-old puppy” because she’s still a puppy at heart. She’s the perfect trial partner, very obedient, always eager to please, and gets along well with sheep. With plenty of natural ability and a quick learner, Rae has taught Trae so much. When not working sheep, Rae loves going to the lake to ride on the paddleboard. On family hikes, she runs back and forth to make sure everyone is staying together.
Trae Loos was born and raised in Utah with a lifelong love of agriculture and a passion for raising animals. For many years, Trae was deeply involved with quarter horses and ran a small herd of beef cows. Currently, he keeps a flock of sheep for training dogs. While fairly new to competing in sheepdog trials, Trae has raised Border Collies for over 20 years. His first Border Collie puppy actually came from Mark Peterson, the founder of the Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic. Trae is fortunate to live close to Shauna Gourley, who has been instrumental in helping him get started in sheepdog training and trialing. Professionally, Trae has worked in management at Intermountain Farmers Association (IFA) for over 20 years. When not working with his dogs, he enjoys just about every other outdoor pursuit Utah has to offer.
