Minor, Mary – HAZEL

$300.00$304.00

You’ll see Hazel go to the post, bouncing and prancing like she is about to play with Mary as opposed to work the sheep on the hill.  Watch that exuberance rapidly change as she is set off on the course where it is “all business.”

Mary comes to us from Dayton, Nevada.  Mary is a veterinarian but recently sold her practice to semi-retire and pursue her passion of ‘sheep-dogging’ further.

Description

Hazel came to Mary by way of Amanda Milliken. Mary had admired Hazel from the time she was whelped. Hazel is an offspring of the the Soldier Hollow great, Dorey (who holds the highest day point record here with a 98), and sired by two time Meeker Champ Howell. Mary describes Hazel as a fun dog to partner with. She can hang out on the couch, walk through a dog park or bring in 300 sheep from the pasture. Hazel has consistently run at the top in open trials since her nursery days. Going to the post with this good talented girl dog is never boring, she often times hops and prances around and gleefully approaches the starting blocks. However once she is off…. she is all business. Mary considers one of their best accomplishment to be winning the most prestigious Kingston Sheepdog Trials in 2022.

Mary comes from a 5th generation Nevada ranch family and currently raises merino fine wool seed stock sheep as well as a small, registered angus herd.  Her first open trial dog was a small clever dog named Feist that she acquired 10 years ago from Amanda Milliken. She has qualified and run in every USBCHA (United States Border Collie Handlers Association) National Finals from the very first year with Feist. With her talented dogs (Feist, Tanè, Ziya, and Hazel),she has won many open trials, high combined, and run in Semi-Finals/Final competition in most of the top trials.  Perhaps a less well-known fact about Mary is she also was a starting point guard and played four years of intercollegiate women’s basketball on a full ride scholarship.
