Hunewill, Haley – JAK

Description

Jak is a 5-year old border collie imported from England and trained by Haley.  Jak has a great personality and loves being involved with everything whether it’s moving cattle to helping “herd” a chicken back into the coop and everything in between. He loves Haley’s children and she is sure that when he’s older and semi retired, he’ll be teaching them how to work a Border Collie. Jak is also a great work dog on the ranch and he’ll gather and work sheep at far distances without any commands and he’s always careful to not leave any behind. Jak is Haley’s right hand on the ranch, as well as, a part of the family.

Haley lives in Wellington, Nevada with her husband and two young daughters.  Haley grew up around livestock and Border Collies as both of her parents raised livestock and trained and used Border Collies on the ranch as well as competing in field trials.   Haley began competing in 1997.  Haley raises commercial hair sheep and a few fine wool ewes and her mom runs sheep also. Between the two places, Haley manages about 300 sheep over 700 acres. She also helps with her husband’s family cattle business which involves many head of cattle over range lands with summer and winter grazing permits consisting of over 200,000 acres. Haley also trains outside dogs and give lessons and clinics to people wanting to learn the craft of using and trialling Border Collies.

Haley seems to be passing on her love for sheepdogs and the ranch as her kids are involved in everything and get lots of time outside! The girls love helping work the sheep plus pretending they are “sheepdogs”. They also love riding horses and being involved with the safer cattle moving activities. They especially love when we raise a litter of puppies! 🙂
