Description
Marianna got Ruger in 2022 and began trailing him in 2023. He qualified for the Double Lift final round in the 2023 USBCHA National Sheep Finals well as finishing 10th the USBCHA Nursery Final. Ruger is always happy and has a very expressive personality. He has a very enthusiastic, “can-do” demeanor as many working border collies have and gives 110%. Marianna always look forward to running him because he likes to learn and rises to a challenge. Ruger turned 5 years old in January of this year. He is a grandson of Sergio Perello’s Jim, English National champion, International Sheepdog Competitor & World Trial Competitor. Ruger’s mother Dot works both cattle and sheep on a ranch in North Dakota.
Marianna was introduced to Border Collies by her mother, Nancy Schreeder, in 1999, competing in her first trial in 2002. She recalls saying to her friends, “I’ll never trial my dogs, I only want to work them on the farm.” Fate had other plans. After starting her first border collie, she was “hooked.” She had the benefit of working with one of her mother’s retired dogs and learned a lot by working with that dog. She credits learning much from her mother both on and off the field. Marianna now lives and trains her border collies just outside of Atlanta. She has been incredibly successful with her dogs, earning a spot on the 2023 World Trial Team that won the Bronze Metal Team Award. Marianna is the President of the Kentucky Border Collie Association which puts on the prestigious “Bluegrass Classic” in Lexington Kentucky, held May 14-18. She recently retired as Treasurer for the United States Border Collie Association; a position held for over 10 years. In addition to these volunteer positions, I own a property management company which specializes in low-income housing apartments.
