Description
Last year’s Soldier Hollow Bronze Medalist, Jak is back! Jan is a 6-year-old male born in England, sired by Sergio Perello’s 2-time English National Champion Jim and out of Tony Birkett’s Ruby, a daughter of Ricky Hutchinson’s English National Champion Sweep. Haley got Jak as a youngster and trained him herself. Jak has a lot of heart and always tries his hardest for her. He has a great personality and loves being involved with everything—from moving cattle to helping “herd” a chicken back into the coop. He loves Haley’s children and will likely teach them how to work a Border Collie when he’s older. Jak is a great work dog on the ranch who’ll gather and work sheep at far distances without any commands, always careful to not leave any behind. He’s good on ewes and baby lambs, being firm with ewes and never touching a small lamb. He’s Haley’s right hand on the ranch and part of the family.
Haley Hunnewill lives in Wellington, Nevada with her husband and 2 young daughters. Both of her parents raised livestock and trained and used Border Collies on the ranch, as well as competing in field trials, so she grew up around livestock and Border Collies her whole life. Her first sheepdog trial was in 1997. Haley raises commercial hair sheep and a few fine wool ewes, and her mom runs sheep also. Between their two places, she manages about 300 sheep over 700 acres. She also helps with her husband’s family cattle business involving many head of cattle over rangelands with summer and winter grazing permits consisting of over 200,000 acres. Haley raises livestock and raises and trains Border Collies for use on her own operation, plus trains them to help other people with their livestock and trialing needs. She also trains outside dogs and gives lessons and clinics. A stay-at-home mom with a full-time ranch business, her kids are with her all the time getting lots of outdoor time, helping work sheep, pretending to be “sheepdogs,” riding horses, and loving when they raise litters of puppies.
